The Gospel of Matthew (P1)

We are beginning a journey through one of the dearest writings in the Bible ... the gospel of Matthew.  It tells the story of Jesus.  It portrays Jesus as the King.  In the United States, we don't know what it is like to live under a king.  That fact will force us to stretch as we try and understand the dynamics of king and kingdom and servant to the king.  But we will stretch!  Because, truly, our Lord is King Jesus.  And if you are a believer, if you have placed your faith in this King, you are a citizen of His kingdom.

I hope for us to learn more about what it means to be a citizen of Christ's kingdom.  What are the freedoms and privileges?  What are the responsibilities?  What are the expectations?  As a Christ-follower, my first allegiance is to Him and His kingdom.  And I do want to be a good citizen!

As we make preparations to begin the study, you will need the following things:

1. Bible (I would suggest a translation that uses chapter and verse numbers - makes it easier to follow.  The New International Version is written on about a 7th grade reading level.  Translations like the New Living Translation will be similar and will read easily.  The New American Standard Bible and the New Revised Standard Version are both written more at an 11th grade reading level.  They are considered more literal translations.)

2.  notebook ... spiral or journal type.  The purpose is to have a place to write down what you learn that applies to you.  I am personally a fan of writing down what I believe God is showing me as I study.  It is also a good place to record any applications that you want to pursue.  You may not have reached the point in your life yet where you have a wonderful idea and 10 minutes later you can't remember what it was ... only that it was something splendid!  Enter ... the notebook!

3.  A prayerful heart that is hungry for more of God, more of His Word.

I anticipate each of us hearing a "word from the Lord" as we pursue more of Him through this study.  So glad you will be going with me!
