After a long, hot summer, I find myself ready to get back in the routine of organized study. I love the free reading that summertime allows ... but always find myself hungering for the structure, the accountability, the order that organized study supplies. If you have felt similar things ... WELCOME BACK!!
Our study this fall will begin September 7 and continue through the week before Thanksgiving. There will be 3 postings each week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Our focus will be in the book of beginnings ... the book of Genesis. The plan is to carefully examine and learn from both Abraham and Joseph and the circumstances and people that surround them. We will also learn much about God. In fact, I encourage you to keep a journal on God this semester. Just get a small notebook or journal and plan to write down the things you observe about God - the things you understand and love as well as the things that are hard.
For the next few days ... let's do a flying sweep-over and refresh our memories on the events that God chose to preserve for us before we meet our protagonist next week. Read a couple of chapters each day through chapter 11.
As you read, remember ... Chapters 1 & 2 describe the incredible creation of the world as we know it.
Chapter 3 records Adam and Eve's foolishness and the disastrous result when sin enters the pristine, newly created world.
Chapters 4 & 5 tell of Cain and Abel.
Chapters 6 - 8 introduce Noah and recount the story of the flood.
Chapters 9 - 10 reveal the blessings that God promises Noah and his descendants.
Chapter 11 begins with the story of the Tower in the region of Babel and the resulting dispersion and language confusion.
That's the assignment! Just read ... allow God to teach you things as you do so. Ask Him what He wants you to learn for your life right now ... today. I will meet you back next week and we will be introduced to this amazing man, Abraham ... the father of our faith.
I'm going to try to follow along with you - I'm Leslie, aka "NoUglyOneYet" from the Sonlight boards, where Sherry posted about your study.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to joining you!
Hi Leslie, glad you found us... you're in for a real adventure. Welcome!
ReplyDeleteAnother one following along. I sign in as The Reader, but am TexasHeather from the Sonlight boards, and a friend of Sherry's from when I used to live in Texas. I now live in Brazil and am grateful for the chance for fellowship and study in English.
ReplyDeleteWelcome girls! I look forward to learning from you as well as we journey with Abram.
