Again - the warnings against sexual practice outside of marriage. Obviously this was a huge problem in the days of the writing of this collection of sayings. Strange - hundreds of years later - and we still struggle with the same temptations, the same "folly". This chapter reminds me of the power of sexuality. As we observe the tragic and solemn warnings given here, we must not forget that God created mankind - male and female - and it was "very good"! Sexuality is such a beautiful gift from God to humankind. Satan will twist anything God gives and turn it into something completely foreign to the intended gift. I believe Satan has done that with sexuality and we continually struggle with the perversion.
As a woman reading this chapter ... I feel a level of pain for the woman portrayed here. She is a predator and I wonder what had happened to her to lead her down that path. I have seen her 21st century counterpart. The only hope for her is the redeeming love of Jesus.
How do we apply these warnings to ourselves? If you are married ... be sure that your "seductive" behavior is for your husband ... ONLY ... not the husband of your friend that you find quite wonderful ... not the man you work with who seems to pay you special attention. If you are a single woman ... take those longings to your Lord through prayer.
Purity matters ... it is not out of style ... it is not prudish ... it is beautiful ... it is Godly ... it is holy.
Help us, Lord, be women who reflect Your glory ... Help us, Lord, be wives that guard our hearts to desire our husbands only.
